In memoQ, you can have comments on a segment level in the translation grid and on document level.

You can enter a comment for each segment in double-clicking the bubble icon (or by pressing Ctrl+M) in each segment. You can also filter your translation document for commented segments in clicking the funnel icon, go to the Status tab, and select the Comments option.

Bilingual files such as memoQ XLIFF or XLIFF:doc or SDLXLIFF, which you import in your project, can also contain comments.

How to begin

You can invoke the segment level comments in clicking the bubble icon in the comments row in the list of translation documents. The Notes dialog appears:

Use

When you invoke the Notes dialog for the first time, you have the Add note section. Add a note. When you then double click the Comments bubble in a row, the Notes dialog appears with the Notes tab open. Here you have the View notes section:

Created by: Shows by whom the topic was created.

Date/time: Shows the date and time of creation.

Category: Shows the selected category/severity level. You can choose Information, Warning, Error, Other. Information is selected by default.

Applies to: Shows to what the note applies to (document, entire row, source, target, selected source text, selected target text). You can apply a note to the document itself, to the entire row or to the source or target cell only. You can also select text in the source or target cell and then add the note only for this selected text.

The red text is the text which you entered in the Comment text field.

You can comment a note or add a note to the comment. After a note was created, and you double click the Comments bubble in the row, the Add note section is visible below the View notes section. Add your note to the already existing note. A comment can contain several notes.

When you want to edit a note, double click the Comments bubble icon in the segment to open the Notes dialog. Click the Edit icon () to edit a comment. The background color of the Comment text field turns green to indicate the editing mode. You can now edit your comment, then click the Apply link to apply your changes to the comment. Click the Cancel edit link to discard your editing.

You can also delete a comment. Click the Bin icon () to delete a comment. A dialog appears to confirm that you are about to delete the comment.

Note: You can use the Undo and Redo in the translation grid to undo changes in comments, too.

Discussion tab (only available in checked out online projects):

Click the Start topic button to open the Start a discussion dialog. Enter a summary text in the Summary field. State the problem in the Problem field. Give a suggestion in the Suggestion / answer field. Assign it to a person from the Assigned to drop-down list.

Click OK to create the discussion. Click Cancel to cancel the creation of a discussion. Row topics can be searched and created like project topics.

Note: This tab is not available if discussions are disabled. The administrator of the memoQ server can disable discussions on the entire server, but she can also exclude certain groups from discussions. If you are member of one such group, you cannot access discussions.
