The Custom field properties dialog appears when you add a new custom field to the meta-information for a translation memory, or you are making changes to an existing custom field.

How to begin

When creating a translation memory: In the New translation memory dialog, click the Custom fields tab, and then click Add below the list of custom fields. To edit an existing custom field, click its name, and then click Edit.

When modifying the properties of a translation memory: In the Translation memory properties dialog, click the Custom fields tab, and then click Add below the list of custom fields. To edit an existing field, click its name, and then click Edit.

When setting up the default scheme for new translation memories: In the Application menu, choose Options > Options. In the category list, click Miscellaneous, and then click the Default TM scheme tab. Below the list of custom fields, click Add, or select an existing field, and click Edit.

Use

In the Name text box, type a name for the custom field. It cannot be the same as the name of any existing fields.

Note: If you are editing an existing custom field, this text box is greyed out: existing custom fields cannot be renamed.

In the Type drop-down list, choose a type for the custom field. The following types are available:

Free text: The custom field can hold any text

Number: A whole number from -2 billion to 2 billion.

Date/time: The custom field holds a date/time value (a timestamp).

Picklist (single): The value of the custom field can be one of the items listed below the Type drop-down list, in the Values list (see the second screenshot).

Picklist (multiple): The value of the custom field can be one of the items listed below the Type drop-down list, in the Values list (see the second screenshot). The custom field can be added more than once to a translation unit, each time with a different value.

The Values list is available if you choose Picklist (single) or Picklist (multiple) in the Type drop-down list. To add a value, type its name in the text box below the list, and click Add. To remove a value, click its name in the list, and click Remove.

Navigation

Click OK to create or change the custom field, and close the dialog. Click Cancel to leave the dialog without creating or changing the custom field.
