memoQ online project - Translation memories pane

In the Translation memories pane of  the memoQ online project dialog, you can manage the translation memories in your online project.

Note: The Translation memories pane of the memoQ online project dialog is similar in appearance and functionality to the Translation memories pane of the Resource console.

How to begin

Open an online project for management: On the Project ribbon tab, choose Manage projects. In the Manage projects dialog, select the project you want to manage, and click the Manage command link below the list. In the memoQ online project dialog, click the Translation memories icon on the left.

Use

The Translation memories pane of the memoQ online project dialog lists the translation memories available for use in the current project. The list contains translation memories that have the same source and target language as the project, and are stored on the same memoQ server where the online project is.

Note: You cannot add local translation memories or translation memories from other servers. If you want to use local translation memories in an online project, you need to upload and publish them on the memoQ server. You can do this using the Resource console.

The list of translation memories

The translation memories are listed in a table. Each row corresponds to one translation memory. The table columns are the following:

•The first column contains a check box. If the check box is checked, the translation memory is assigned to the project.

•The second column shows the status of the translation memory. A green tick indicates if the translation memory is in working order; a lightning symbol indicates if the translation memory is not available.

•Type: This column shows your working and master translation memory that you have set as. The working (primary) translation memory is the one where memoQ stores your newly confirmed segments, using all other translation memories only for retrieving existing information. You can set a translation memory primary by clicking Set as working (primary) under the list. Set a TM as master in clicking the Set as master link under the list.

•Name: The name of the translation memory.

•The fifth and sixth columns show the location of the translation memory. Local translation memories have the computer icon, remote translation memories have the cloud icon. The Path/URL column shows the location and name of the translation memory folder of a local translation memory; for online translation memories, this column shows the name or address of the server where they are stored.

•Source and Target: The source and target languages of the translation memory.

Important: If your project has multiple target languages, you can choose one target language from the Target language drop-down list in the top right corner of the memoQ online project dialog. A translation memory is always bilingual: it has one source language and one target language. In a multilingual project, memoQ keeps a separate list of translation memories for each target language. If you select All languages in the Target language drop-down list, you can view the list of all translation memories in the project, but you cannot add further translation memories, and you cannot change the primary translation memory for each language.

Filtering the translation memory list

There are several options to narrow the list if it is too long.

You can filter the list of translation memories for meta-information details such as Project, Client, Domain and Subject. These appear in drop-down lists that shows all values that exist in the listed translation memories or term bases. You can also filter for the source language and the target language of the translation memory.

You can also filter for the name or the description of the translation memory. As you start typing in the Name/Description box, the list is immediately restricted to resources where either the Name or the Description property contains the characters you typed.

Using translation memories in the project

Important: You can control the list of translation memories separately for each target language in your project. If the project has multiple target languages, always select a target language first, and then add or remove translation memories in the project. If you select All languages in the Target language drop-down list, the procedures described here will not work.

To use a translation memory in the project, check the check box to the left of the name of the translation memory. Alternatively, you can select the translation memory, and click the Use in project link below the list.

The first translation memory you assign to the project will be the primary translation memory – where all confirmed segments are written until you choose another primary translation memory. To set another translation memory as the primary one, double-click the empty cell in the Type column. Alternatively, right-click its name, and choose Set as working from the popup menu. You can also select the translation memory, and click Set as working below the list. To make a translation memory the primary one, you must use it in the project first.

Note: These options are available on the Translation memories ribbon tab in the checked out online project and in local projects.

You can use as many translation memories in the project as you want.

Translation memories you use in the project are moved to the top of the list.

Translation memory actions

Use the command links below the list of translation memories to manage translation memories in the online project. The following commands are available:

•Create/use new: Opens the New translation memory dialog to create a new translation memory on the memoQ server. This command also adds the translation memory to the online project.

•Clone: Creates an empty translation memory with the same custom fields as the selected TM.

•Delete: Deletes the selected translation memory from the server. You cannot delete a translation memory that is still in use in the project: remove it from the project first.

•Properties: Displays the Translation memory properties dialog to view or change the properties of the selected resource.

•Use in project/Remove from project: Adds the selected translation memory to the project. If it is already added, removes it.

•Set as working (primary): Sets the selected translation memory as working (primary), where all confirmed segments are written until you choose another primary translation memory.

•Set as master: Sets the selected translation memory as master TM. When you perform Confirm and update rows operation at the end of a project, all segments are confirmed to the master TM, the master TM is updated.

•Import from TMX/CSV: Imports the contents of a TMX or CSV file into the selected translation memory.

•Export to TMX: Exports the contents of the selected translation memory into a TMX file.

•Query Repository: Starts the Query TM Repository wizard to create a new translation memory from the TM Repository database. This command is available only if a memoQ server is selected, and it is connected to a TM Repository server.

•Settings: Displays the Select TM settings dialog to assign a set of TM options to the selected translation memory. You can choose from TM option sets assigned to the project. To manage TM option sets in the project, use the TM settings tab of the Settings pane of the memoQ online project dialog.

•Register local: Click this command to register your translation memory locally. Navigate to the MTM file, then click Open. This command adds a resource that you have in the file system to the Resource console

•Repair resource: Starts the Repair wizard for the selected translation memory. Use when you think the translation memory is damaged.

•Update Query: If the currently selected translation memory originates from a TM Repository database, this command displays the Update TM Repository from  TM dialog to send back new and changed content from the translation memory to the TM Repository server. This command is available only if a memoQ server is selected, and it is connected to a TM Repository server.

•Add to Repository: If the currently selected translation memory does not originate from a TM Repository database, this command the sends its contents to a TM Repository server. After you choose this command, your default Web browser will start, and display the Import wizard of TM Repository itself. This command is available only if a memoQ server is selected, and it is connected to a TM Repository server.

Navigation

To switch to another pane in in the memoQ online project dialog, click its icon. The name of the active pane is set in bold. To exit the memoQ online project dialog, click the Close () button in the top right corner.
