Since Windows Vista, it is possible to add properties to Windows files, like videos or music files often have.

memoQ now uses properties for the following file formats:

MQXLIFF, XLF or XLIFF, SDLXLIFF, TMX, MQOUT, MQBKF, MQBACK, MPRX.

If you are a project manager and you send out MQXLIFF files to translators, but you forgot to indicate the languages in the file name. Select a file in Windows Explorer, and at the bottom of Windows Explorer, you see some information for your document.  Right-click the file, then choose Properties. On the memoQ tab, you find further meta-information for your file.

Maybe you are a translator who receives an MQXLIFF file, but you are unable to import the file into your project, but you cannot because the MQXLIFF file has different languages than your project, e.g. the MQXLIFF contains ENG-US and GER-GER, but your project languages are ENG and GER. Or you work with English as your target language, but you take jobs in British and American English as well. Now you would like to organize the TMX files into folders, it comes in handy to know the languages of these TMX files. Or maybe you are a project manager who wants to see if the project packages have been generated for all languages.

Note: This is not working for Windows XP.

The following properties are visible:

MQXLIFF:
