Plain text files contain unformatted text content, and can be created in text editors like Notepad. In memoQ, a wide range of the possible types of plain text files can be imported for translation (different encodings, line break types, etc.). Translated text is exported as UTF-8 encoded text files with DOS type line breaks.

If a plain-text file has internal structure, it can be prepared properly using the Regex text filter that is capable of breaking up the text along the structural units. For more information, see the topic on Structured text files.
