It can happen that you need to export a bilingual file,  for example a memoQ XLIFF file to be processed in another tool, or a two-column RTF for a reviewer who does not use a translation environment tool such as memoQ. The translator or reviewer makes changes to the file and sends you the file back. You can import the file back into your project. memoQ recognizes the file and updates the existing file(s) in your project.

memoQWeb supports:

memoQ XLIFF

Two-column RTF

Trados-bilingual DOC

How to begin

Open a project from the Dashboard. Go to the Translations pane. Click Import to import a bilingual file.

Note: You need to have exported the file from the Translations pane first.

memoQ detects the file format (two-column RTF, memoQ XLIFF or Trados-compatible bilingual DOC) and displays the corresponding import options for it.

Options

General options (not specific to the bilingual format):

Create preview check box: This check box is activated by default. Team members can see the real-time preview of the documents they are working on. However, if you are concerned about the time it takes to download the documents, you might want to turn off this option. Users will have to download a smaller amount of data: they will be able to access the contents of the project more quickly. On the other hand, they will not be see the real-time preview, which might be crucial in certain projects.

Record version history check box: Check this check box to track the history of documents and segments in the project. Whenever a change is made to a segment, memoQ records the earlier version, so that you can view the changes, or even to revert to an earlier version. In addition, you can tag your project at a specific time, so that memoQ can always show how the project looked like at the time it was tagged.

Import embedded objects check box: Check this check box to import embedded objects like Visio graphics or Excel files embedded in a DOCX file.

memoQ XLIFF:

Use received segmentation if possible check box: The segmentation of the bilingual file is used. If for example the translator splitted or joined a segment, then the segmentation of the memoQ XLIFF files differs than the originally imported file.

Make changed rows edited check box: When a segment was changed outside memoQ and is imported back as bilingual update, then these segments get the Edited status. You can easily filter for these segments in memoQ to check the changed segments done by the translator or reviewer.

Two-column RTF:

Tags must have mqInternal style check box: When you check this check box, memoQ will look for parts formatted in the mqInternal style. Only those parts will be imported as formatting tags that are formatted in this style. This option is turned off by default.

Do not update if source segment is different check box: Use this option when you do not wish to update source segments that differ from the original file you exported the bilingual file from, e.g. the translator made corrections in the source text.

Trados-bilingual DOC:

Do not update if source segment is different check box: Use this option when you do not wish to update source segments that differ from the original file you exported the bilingual file from, e.g. the translator made corrections in the source text.

You can combine monolingual and bilingual file import. memoQWeb then displays the Import options and the Bilingual update options.

You can also combine the bilingual update: upload a two-column RTF and a memoQ XLIFF file. memoQ detects which bilingual file to use to update the corresponding file in the project.

The Action column has 2 options:

Update (the name of the existing document) to update an existing file in the project

Ignore: If you upload two or more bilingual files for the same existing translation document to update, the last of them receives the Update {name of existing document} action, the other files have Ignore in the Action column. However, for bilingual files that belong to the same translation document, you can choose between these bilingual files with a popover dialog.
