Post-translation analysis

Post-translation analysis is a feature that offers an accurate analysis of the specific savings achieved on different TM match rates – after translation is complete. With "traditional" analysis methods, a translator or a translation organization can "predict" or estimate how much will be saved on translation memory matches. Post-translation analysis lets you know the actual savings.

Post-translation analysis looks at the actual match rate that is indicated at every segment like this:

memoQ sets up the same match rate bands as in Statistics (101%, 100%, 95-99%, 85-94%, 75-84%, 50-74%, No match), and calculates the analysis in the same format. The most obvious difference is that this time memoQ does not look up the segments in the translation memories. Instead, it takes the match rate numbers from the segments in the documents.

Important: The match rates in the documents are zero (0%) by default unless the segments are filled in through pre-translation or the translator is using automatic lookup and insertion. PTA uses the number next to the segment, to the left of the check mark or the X.

Post-translation analysis is available in the project manager edition of memoQ, and works only if you received the current project in a handoff package, or you are the project manager of a project – and you receive delivery packages, or work on an online project.

Whenever a user in a translator role confirms a segment, memoQ records:

▪the user's name

▪a timestamp

▪the match rate currently visible in the translation grid

Note: If you work in a regular local project, you do not count as a translator. You are a translator if: it is an online project, and the document is assigned to you in the translator role, or it is a handoff, and you received this handoff as a translator.

To calculate post-translation analysis, navigate to the Overview pane of the Project home or the online project tab. In the Overview pane, click the Report tab. If Post-translation analysis is not shown, click the Create new report now command under Post-translation analysis. You will be able to show or hide the post-translation analysis.

Post-translation analysis is calculated by user: this means that you have information on the TM savings for each translator in your project. Here is an example:

The user tables are followed by a summary, which shows your total savings on the entire project:

Important: In local projects, post-translation analysis works only if there is at least one document that was delivered by a translator in a delivery package.

Note: Post translation analysis counts segments where a translator was stored. If for a row no user is stored in “confirmed by translator X” that word count does not show up anywhere. This can happen e.g. if segments were translated by an Reviewer 1 and not by a Translator role.
