Running memoQ on Mac

memoQ doesn't have a Mac version, but you can run it on a Mac by setting up a virtual Windows environment.

Here’s what you need and how to do it.

What you need

  • A virtual Windows environment

Use software like VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop, Oracle VM, or Boot Camp.

  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit)

Version 1607 or newer (Windows 11 also works).

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or higher

    Usually installed through Windows updates.

  • At least 8 GB of RAM (16 GB is better)

More memory helps with larger projects.

  • 600 MB of free disk space

Not counting your own data or .NET files.

  • SSD (recommended)

Gives you better speed and performance.

  • Microsoft Office 2013 or newer (optional)

Only needed if you work directly with Office files.

  • Minimum screen resolution of 1024x768 (1920x1080 recommended)

How to set it up

  1. Set up a virtual environment

Install software like Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, or Boot Camp.

If you use Parallels Desktop, make sure you don’t store memoQ files in shared folders (paths like psf\). Keep all memoQ files—projects, documents, translation memories (TMs), term bases (TBs) in regular Windows folders (like C:\somefolder\somefile.ext) to avoid problems.

  2. Install Windows

Follow the steps in the Installation and activation guide.

  3. Install memoQ desktop app

Once Windows is running, download and install memoQ just like you would on a regular Windows PC.
