Resource Console: Export path rules

1. Under the list of export path rules, click Create new.
2. The Create new export path rule window opens.
3. Type a name for the export path rule. You may also type a description.

4. Click OK.

   Default rule: When you create a new export path rule, it will use the default settings. To make it work, you need to change the rule. To do that, edit the export path rule.

   On your computer or on a server? memoQ will create the export path rule at the location shown at the top, in the Server URL box. At first, it is My Computer: memoQ will create the new export path rule on your computer. However, you can select a server at the top, in the Server URL box. In that case, memoQ will offer to create the export path rule on that server - if you have the permission to do so.

1. In the list of export path rules, select the one you need to copy.
2. Under the list of export path rules, click Clone.
3. The Clone export path rule into a new resource window opens. It's the same as the Create new export path rule window.
4. Type a name for the export path rule. You may also type a description.

5. Click OK.

Normally, memoQ will show export path rules from your own computer. However, you can manage online export path rules from memoQ servers that you have access to.

To view the export path rules from a memoQ server or from a memoQ cloud subscription:

1. At the top of the Resource console window, there is a Server URL drop-down box. Type or choose the address of the memoQ server.
2. After you type or choose the address of the memoQ server, click Select.

   You may need to log in to the memoQ server: If you have not used the server before, the Log in to server window opens. Type your user name and password for that server, and click OK.

3. memoQ will show the export path rules from that server and from your computer (those never disappear).

   Online export path rules have the cloud or the sun icon, and the server is shown next to them:

The sun icon means that your computer has automatically downloaded the export path rule, so that it can be used in a project without delay.

You must have permission for the export path rules: It is not enough to have access to the memoQ server. To use an export path rule, you need at least Use permission over the export path rule itself. If you are not sure, contact the owner of the memoQ server.

Now you can create or edit export path rules on the server, or perform other actions on them. You need permissions over the export path rules to do so.

Normally, memoQ shows online export path rules only if their server is selected in the Server URL box.

Hovewer, if you frequently use an export path rule, you can pin it to the list. To pin an online export path rule to the list, click the empty cell at the left of its row:

When an export path rule is pinned to the list, it shows a pin in that cell:

When you select another server or My Computer in the Server URL box, the pinned export path rule remains on the list.

If there are too many export path rules on the list, you can filter the list. At the top of the Export path rules tab, there is a Name/description box.

Type a word or two in the Name/description box. It will narrow the list immediately to those export path rules that have those words in their names or descriptions.

To sort the list by a detail or another: Click the column header of the column you need. For example, to sort the list by name, click the Name header at the top of the list.

You can export an export path rule into an .mqres file. An .mqres file is an XML file where memoQ saves resources like export path rules, QA profiles, TM settings etc. These are called light resources because they don't contain a large amount of linguistic data.

To export an export path rule:

1. In the list, select the export path rule you need to export.
2. Under the list, click Export. A Save As window opens.

   Or: Right-click the export path rule. From the menu, choose Export.

3. Find a folder and a name for the file, and click Save. memoQ will export all details from the export path rule in the file.

   You can also import an export path rule from a .mqres file. When you import an .mqres file, memoQ will always create a new export path rule.

Because memoQ saves all kinds of resources in .mqres files, you need to make sure that your .mqres file contains an export path rule.

To import an export path rule from an .mqres file:

1. At the bottom of the Export path rules tab, click Import new. An Open window appears.
2. Select the .mqres file. Click Open.
3. The Import new export path rule window opens. It's the same as the Create new export path rule window.
4. memoQ will pick up the name of the rule set from the .mqres file. However, you can give it a new name, and type a new description, too.
5. Click OK.

   On your computer or on a server? memoQ will create the export path rule at the location shown at the top, in the Server URL box. At first, it is My Computer: memoQ will create the new export path rule on your computer. However, you can select a server at the top, in the Server URL box. In that case, memoQ will offer to create the export path rule on that server - if you have the permission to do so.

1. In the list of export path rules, select the one you need to edit.
2. Under the list of export path rules, click Edit.
3. The Edit export path rule window opens.
4. Change the export path rule as necessary.

   Cannot edit the default rules: You can't edit the Default export path rules. If you need a resource that you can edit, clone one of the Default rules first.

1. In the list, select the export path rule.
2. Below the list, click Properties.
3. The Resource properties window opens. It's the same as the Create new export path rule window.
4. If necessary, change the name or the description of the resource. Click OK.

1. In the list, select the export path rule.
2. Below the list, click Delete.
3. The Confirm delete message box opens. To delete the resource, click Yes.

After you put together an export path rule on your computer, you can share them on a memoQ server that you have access to.

1. In the Server URL box, choose the server. Click Select. Log in to the server if necessary.
2. Find the local export path rule on the list. Select it.

   A local export path rule is marked by a computer icon.

3. At the bottom, click Share on Server. The Share resource on server window opens.
4. You may choose a different name for the online copy of the export path rule, and you may also delete the local export path rule after it is shared. Make your choices, and click OK.

   memoQ will copy the export path rule to the selected server, and make it available there, with the default permissions.

To remove an export path rule from a server:

1. In the Server URL box, choose the server. Click Select. Log in to the server if necessary.
2. In the list, find the export path rule you need to remove. Select it.
3. At the bottom, click Remove from server. The Remove export path rule from server window opens.

   This command will not simply remove the export path rule from the server: it will copy the export path rule to your computer.

4. You may choose a different name for the local copy of the export path rule, and you may also keep the online export path rule after it is "removed". Make your choices, and click OK.

   memoQ will copy the export path rule to your computer.

Online export path rules are normally published. This means that they are accessible through the memoQ server.

However, you can unpublish an export path rule:

1. In the Server URL box, choose the server. Click Select. Log in to the server if necessary.
2. Find the export path rule on the list.
3. Right-click the export path rule, and choose Unpublish.

   After you unpublish an export path rule, it will still be stored on the server, but it will not be accessible. Users cannot use it in projects. To publish it again, right-click it, and choose Publish.

Admin permission needed: To change the permissions over an export path rule, you need the Admin permission over it.

To change who can do what with an online export path rule, do this:

1. In the Server URL box, choose the server. Click Select. Log in to the server if necessary.
2. Find the export path rule on the list. Select it.
3. At the bottom, click Set Permissions. The Permissions window opens.
4. Choose the users or groups who can access the export path rule, and set their access levels. Add an expiry date to each permission if necessary. Click OK.
