Microsoft PowerPoint (PPTX)
In this window, you can control how memoQ imports Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 or newer (*.pptx or *.potx) documents.
This window is for presentations from PowerPoint 2007 or higher: Use it to import .pptx or *.potx files.
How to get here
- Start importing a presentation from PowerPoint 2007 or higher (a .pptx file).
- In the Document import options window, select the PowerPoint presentations, and click Change filter & configuration.
- The Document import settings window appears. From the Filter drop-down list, choose Microsoft PowerPoint filter.

What can you do?
In the Content to importChoose content you want to import section, you can import or ignore certain parts of the presentation. Here are the options you have:
Import master slides: Allows you to import master slides. Use this setting when they contain text to translate.
Import notes: Allows you to import the notes for the slides. If your slides have no notes or you don’t need them, simply uncheck this box.
Import comments: Allows you to import comments. Use this setting if your comments contain important information that you want to translate.
- Import alternative text of images: Allows you to import ALT text. This feature is important for screen reader users as they rely on ALT texts in their everyday work.
Import soft breaks as inline tags: Allows you to import soft breaks as inline tags. Clear this checkbox if you don't want to import them.
Import sections: In PowerPoint 2010 and newer versions, slides can be organized into sections. Normally, memoQ doesn't import section titles. If you need to translate them: Select this checkbox.
Import hidden slides: Normally, memoQ imports hidden slides that do not appear in the slide show otherwise. Clear this checkbox if you don't want to import them.
Always use inline tags: Click Import markup as inline tags. The other option is to import all formatting markup as legacy memoQ {tags}, which is not recommended.
If there are text boxes with several lines of text, separated by soft line breaks: Normally, they will be together in one segment, and the soft breaks appear as inline tags. If you need separate segments: Clear the Import soft breaks as inline tags checkbox.
Usually, memoQ uses its own definitions for whitespaces between characters.
However, when you import files created with DTP, they may contain custom whitespaces or spaces between characters (kerning). Such formatting can show as inline tags in your documents.
To import the files without these inline tags, select the Ignore locally defined spacing and kerning checkbox.
Choose how memoQ should import content from documents that were saved in Microsoft Office 2010 or newer.

Some parts of a document, like text boxes, are called extensions. In newer versions of Office, each extension is saved twice: one copy for the latest Office, and another copy that older versions (Office 2007 or earlier) can read. This way, your content works no matter which version you open it in.
You have three choices:
| Setting | Imported extensions | Exported file in new Office | Exported file in old Office |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keep compatible with all Office versionsAll Office versions | Both, some parts appear in memoQ more than once | Looks new, text is translated | Looks old, text is translated |
| Keep compatible with original Office version and newerOriginal Office version and newer ones | New | Looks new, text is translated | Looks old, text is not translated |
| Downgrade document to Office 2007 | Old | Looks old, text is translated | Looks old, text is translated |
