Installing memoQ

Before you start

Operating system

64-bit editions of Windows 10 (Anniversary Update or newer), Windows 11.

Mac support: memoQ might run on iMac and MacBook computers in a virtual Windows machine (e.g. VMWare Fusion or Parallels). See the note about ARM processors below.

.NET Framework

Version 4.8 or higher

Note: Windows installs this version automatically if you keep it up-to-date.
Processor

5 years old maximum; Intel Core i5 or equivalent recommended

We are not testing memoQ TMS on machines with ARM processors. Although memoQ TMS might work on such computers, we cannot take responsibility for issues resulting from use on unsupported hardware.

Memory

8 GB required; 16 GB or more recommended

Hard disk space

600 MB (this does not include your working data or the .NET Framework). SSD drive recommended.

Screen resolution

1024*768 pixels required; 1920*1080 pixels recommended, with a maximum scaling of 125%.

Other software

Microsoft Office is not required to work with Office files. Microsoft Office 2013 and newer are supported.

 

Step-by-step installation process

  1. To install memoQ, you need to log in to your computer or run the setup package as an administrator.

    Otherwise, Windows will ask for an administrator’s password when you attempt to install memoQ.

  2. Download and open the memoQ installer. It's a single executable (*.exe) file.

    Your browser will save the setup file in your Downloads folder. To open it:

    • Click the file name or Run button at the bottom of your browser.

    • If you can’t see a button, go to your Downloads folder and double-click the file.

      Don’t delete the file or folder until memoQ is fully installed. You may want to keep it, but for future installations, it’s best to download the latest version from memoq.com.

  3. Select your language for the setup process and memoQ itself.

    Available options in the memoQ11.0include English, German, French (Canadian), Spanish, Hungarian, Japanese, and Chinese (simplified & traditional).

  4. Start the memoQ setup wizard. It will guide you through the installation process.

    The setup wizard will check if:

    • .NET Framework 4.8 or higher is installed on your computer. If not, you'll see a warning, with a direct link from where you can download it (on the Microsoft's page use Runtime, not the Developer Pack).

    • Visual C++ Redistributable module is installed. If not, the wizard will install it for you.

  5. To continue the installation process, accept the Software End-User License Agreement.

  6. Then, select destination folder.

    • By default, memoQ installs in C:\Program Files\memoQ\memoQ-11.

    • To change this, click the Browse button, and select a different folder.

  7. Decide which additional options you would like to use: you can create a desktop icon, allow memoQ to look for updates online, and install them automatically.

  8. At this point, memoQ setup wizard checks if you have a valid license for selected memoQ version.

    If you don't have one, you can:

    • Upgrade your license - select this option if you want to extend your support and maintenance agreement for one more year. This will cost 20% of the list price, and will grant you licenses for new versions for one more year (counted from the day when the previous agreement expired).

      If you're not an individual user, make sure to ask your organization/employer to make this upgrade for you.

    • Install an earlier version for which you have a valid license. The Downloads page will open in a browser.

      If you need the latest memoQ's version:

      1. On the Downloads page, under the Boost your productivity section, click the Download button.

      2. In the pop-up window, click the Download link next to the product you need.

        If you need an older version, click the Previous releases tab and click the row of the version you are looking for.

    • Ignore the warning and install the new version - use this option only if you know you will get a license for selected version soon (for example, from an organization / employer). Setup will start the installation process straight away.

  9. To complete the process, click Finish to close the Setup program.

If you use the project manager edition, and you manage online projects on memoQ 10 x servers, you may need to install memoQ 11.0 next to the earlier version (10.2 or 10.4). To manage memoQ 10 x servers (any minor version), you will still need memoQ 10.x (any minor version). By default, memoQ 11.0 will not overwrite earlier installations and installs into a different folder (C:\Program files\memoQ\memoQ-11.
