Project home – Translations pane
The Translations pane is a central part of your work in memoQ. This is where you see a list of your documents, and get an overview of how much has been done and how much work is still left.
You can also send work to other users, either in handoff packages, or by publishing the project on a memoQ server - or in a memoQ cloud.
This page is about the Translations pane in memoQ project manager. To learn about the Translations pane in the translator pro edition, see this Help page.
Normally, some documents will already be here when you first open your project in Project home. This is because you are supposed to add documents on the Dashboard or in the Create new project from template window. Still, you can add new documents here, or delete or replace existing ones.
To translate or review a document in memoQ:
- In the Translations pane, import the document.
- Run preparations: pre-translation, analysis, maybe X-translation after you reimport a document from a new version.
Preparation steps may be automatic: If the project was created from a template, pre-translation and analysis usually runs automatically after a document is imported. To see the settings of the template: Go to the Overview pane, and click the Template settings tab.
Mind the languages: If the project has two or more target languages, you need to assign the documents separately for each target language. Choose the target language from the Target language drop-down box at the top right. Or, choose All languages there, and switch the list to Structure mode. Then you'll have a list for each target language.
- Open the document for translation, and work on it in the translation editor.
Or: Assign each document to a translator and a reviewer, and send the work to them. Use the commands in the Overview pane to create a handoff package or to publish the project on a memoQ server. If this is the case, you need to receive the deliveries from those users.
- When you finish working on the document, you can export the translation from the list.
Normally, the Translations pane gives you a simple list of documents. Even in that list, you find detailed information on the document status, the progress, and the document versions. You can switch the list to Structure mode. In the Structure mode, documents are grouped by target language and folder (if complete folders were imported).
You can filter the list for documents that you need to see. For example, you can look at documents that have a specific word in their names. Or, you can sort the list by name or size. Choose this from the Sort by drop-down box.
How to get here
- From the Dashboard, create or open a project. Or, check out a project from a memoQ server.
Checking out a project from a memoQ server as a project manager: memoQ will give you all the documents in the project for all target languages. In addition, you will see the users assigned to each document in each role. However, if the project is a checkout of an online project, you cannot change the assignments in Project home. To do that, you need to open the same project in the memoQ online project window.
- Under Project home, click Translations. The Translations pane appears.

To view the list in a structure of languages and folders, click Structure above the list. The list will change as follows:
Select a document. Above the list, click Details. The Details pane appears on the right:
The Details pane remains on. If you select another document, it will show the details of that document. If you select several documents, it will show the details that the documents have in common.
What can you do?
Double-click the name of a document.
- Or, right-click the document name, and choose Open For Translation.
- Or, select a document. On the Documents ribbon, click Translate.
The translation editor opens in a separate editor tab.
Are you getting an error when you try to open a document? Maybe your computer is missing a font that memoQ needs to show the text. When this happens, install the language pack in Windows for both your source language and your target language. To do this, open Control Panel in Windows. Choose Language, click Add language, then choose the language you need, and - at the bottom - click Add. Then, next to the language, click Options, and then click Download and install language pack. (This is what you do in Windows 10; to our knowledge, the error occurs most often in Windows 10 and with the Korean language.)
The document list shows the following information about each document:
- Name column: It shows the name of the document. If the Structure mode is on, this is where you see expandable groups of languages and folders. If a document has embedded objects, it can also be expanded, so that the embedded objects are shown below the document. If you are viewing all languages, and the Grouping mode is on, each document is an expandable group. If you expand the document name, you'll see each target language under the document.
- Document status icon: It can indicate whether the translation is in progress, or that the translation is complete, or that Review 1 is complete, or that Review 2 is complete. To learn the status, move the mouse pointer over the icon. memoQ will display the status message in a bubble.
- V: Shows the current version of each document. The first number shows the version of the source text. The second number shows the version of the translation.
- #: This column shows the number of segments, words, or characters in each document. You can choose which. Normally, memoQ shows the number of words.
To choose from Segments, Words, or Characters: Right-click anywhere in the document list. Point to Base progress on. From the menu, choose Segments, Words, and Characters. The change affects the entire project. (You cannot change the unit for just one document.) memoQ will use the count of your choice to display document sizes and to compute the progress on the documents.
- Target language: The three-letter code of the target language of the document (ger, hun, eng etc.)
- Progress: Shows a progress indicator for each document. It displays the progress of the Translator, the Reviewer 1, and the Reviewer 2 in various shades of green. If you move the mouse pointer over the indicator, three numbers appear. The first is the progress of the Translator, the second is the progress of Reviewer 1, and the third is the progress of Reviewer 2. The numbers are percentages. memoQ computes the progress from the number of segments, words, or characters - depending on your choice. Normally, memoQ uses the word counts.
- Translator: The name of the translator for the document. This is the name of a user on the memoQ server.
- Deadline (T): The deadline of translation for the document (optional). If the deadline is approaching within 24 hours, an orange indication is displayed next to the deadline. If the deadline is overdue, the indication marker turns red.
The background color of the deadline cell also shows the workflow status of the document:
- Grey: Work was not started on the document;
- Blue: Work is in progress;
- Green: Work has finished, the document was delivered;
- Light red: Work is overdue.
- Orange: Work is due within 24 hours.
- Reviewer 1: The name of the 1st reviewer of the document (optional). This is the name of a user on the memoQ server.
- Deadline (R1): The deadline of Review 1 for the document (optional). The background color of this field also shows the workflow status of the document (see above).
- Reviewer 2: The name of the 2nd reviewer of the document (optional). This is the name of a user on the memoQ server.
- Deadline (R2): The deadline of Review 2 for the document (optional). The background color of this field also shows the workflow status of the document (see above).
You cannot change the assignments if this project is a checkout from an online project.
If you assign participants here in the local project (with the plan to send handoff packages), and a participant is assigned to a document, there's also an icon that shows the type of the assignment:
At the top of the list, click Details. The Details pane appears. It will always show extensive details for the selected document.
The Details pane contains:
- Document type: The format of the original source document (Word, XML, HTML, etc.).
- Import path: The folder where the document was imported from.
- Export path: The folder and name where the document is supposed to be exported. memoQ will export the translated document in that folder if you click Export (stored path).
- Filter configuration: The filter configuration that was used when the document imported.
- Size: The size of the document in segments, words, and characters (all of them).
If there are embedded objects or images in the document: The Details pane shows information on the master document, as well as the number of embedded objects or images. In this case, you can expand the master document like a folder. The embedded objects appear in the list like separate documents. To learn more about an embedded object, click it in the document list.
- Assignments and deadlines:
- Shows the target language of the project.
- Shows the workflow phase of the document. If the project does not come from a handoff package, and it was not checked out from a server either, it is always Undefined.
- A table with each user role (Translator, Reviewer 1, Reviewer 2), the user the document is assigned to, and the progress. If the project does not come from a handoff package, and it was not checked out from a server either, these always show Not Assigned.
- Under the table, there is one icon: Translate. To open the document for translation, click this icon.
Mind the languages: If the project has two or more target languages, you need to assign the documents separately for each target language. Choose the target language from the Target language drop-down box at the top right. Or, choose All languages there, and switch the list to Structure mode. Then you'll have a list for each target language.
To view the list in a tree: At the top of the list, click Structure. The tree starts with the target language of the project. Under the target language, memoQ shows the main folder, and then the subfolders and the documents themselves.
Each group can be expanded or collapsed. Click the arrowhead icon on the left of the name of the target language or the folder.
When a document contains embedded objects, memoQ imports them as separate documents. In this case, the document itself becomes a "folder". To see the embedded objects, you need to expand the document.
When a document is sliced up, there is a master document. The master document cannot be assigned. Its slices appear below it like in a folder. The sliced document can also be expanded and collapsed.
To return to the flat list: At the top of the list, click Structure again. The headings of the target languages and the folders will disappear.
After you import several folders in the project, there may be documents that come from different folders but have the same name.
If you are not viewing the list in the Structure view, and you see identical names: At the top of the list, click Path.
If Structure was turned on, Path turns it off. The list will be almost the same as the plain document list, but memoQ shows the differences in the paths of documents that have the same name.
To return to the flat list: At the top of the list, click Path again. The relative folders will disappear.
To copy the names and paths from the file list: Select the files you want. Right-click one of them. At the bottom of the context menu, point to Copy Path.
- To copy the full path (example: "D:\customer\project\htm\file1.htm" and "D:\customer\project\txt\file3.txt"), select Copy file name with absolute path or press Ctrl+Alt+F.
- To copy only the differing part of the paths (example: "\htm\file1.htm" and "\txt\file3.txt"), select Copy file name with relative path or press Ctrl+Alt+R.
- To copy only the file names (example: "file1.htm" and "file3.txt"), select Copy file name or press Ctrl+Alt+C.
To open the folders where the selected files are, select Open location or press Ctrl+Alt+O.
To sort the document list: At the top of the list, from the Sort by drop-down box, choose one detail. You can sort the list by one of the following details:
- document name
- document status
- workflow status
- document version
- size
- document language
- progress (overall, for translation, for review 1, for review 2)
- memoQ user role (translator, reviewer 1, reviewer 2)
- deadline (for translation, review 1, review 2)
- whether a document contains embedded objects,
- whether the document is fully assigned (that is, a user is assigned in every role).
To reverse the sorting order, click the arrow next to the Sort by drop-down box.
To search in the document list: At the top of the list, in the search box, enter words that you want to see in the document name. Then press Enter, or click the Search icon.
To filter the document list: At the top of the list, in the search box, click the Edit icon. The Edit filter window opens. Add filter conditions in this window, then click OK. Back in the search box, click the Search icon. To stop filtering: Click the icon to return the full list.
To do everything described below, use the commands on the Documents ribbon. You may need to select documents first.
To use a command, you can also right-click a document or the selected documents, and choose the command from the menu. To import new documents, you can also right-click the empty space in the list.
- Import: Imports one or more documents, and adds them to the project. An Open window opens. You must choose the documents from your own computer. You can select several documents, and they don't have to be the same format. memoQ will use the default filter and the default filter configuration for the format of each document.
- Import with options (on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Import icon, and choose Import with options): Imports one or more documents, and adds them to the current project. This time you can choose or configure the filter that memoQ uses to import the document. After you choose the documents in the Open window, the Document import options window opens. You can make changes to the document filter, or even select a different document type. To learn more, see Help about the Document import options and the Document import settings windows.
Always use Import with options for some formats: Use the Import with options command to import Microsoft Excel, XML, plain-text files, as well as bilingual Word documents.
To import bilingual documents: The Import or the Import with options command will import bilingual documents, too.
- Import folder structure (on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Import icon, and choose Import folder structure): Imports an entire folder, complete with subfolders. Opens the Add folder structure window. memoQ will import all supported files from the selected folder and its sub-folders. You can also choose and configure the document filter for each file. To learn more, see Help about the Add folder structure window.
Import normally happens with preview, but you may want to turn it off: With some documents, the preview files become too large for memoQ to handle. If the import of a document is too slow, you can try turning off the preview. To do this: Right-click anywhere in the document list, and from the menu, choose Enable preview for translations. Normally, this is turned on: when you click it in the menu, it will turn off.
- Remove: Removes the selected document or documents from the project. The document is deleted from the project database, but will not be deleted from its original location.
- Reimport document: Reimports the selected document(s). memoQ will import the document from the original location where it was first imported from. If the document is no longer there, you can choose another folder and file. memoQ will assume that this is a new version of the source document. The major (first) version number of the document will increase by one.
Cannot reimport if document is in view or handed off: memoQ cannot reimport a document as long as it is part of a view or it was handed off in a handoff package. If the document is in a view, you can remove the view - then the document can be reimported again.
Multilingual Excel or delimited document must be reimported for all languages: A multilingual Excel or delimited document looks like two or more documents in memoQ. But these "documents" will all be exported in one file. memoQ cannot just update the document for one target language, and leave the other languages alone. When you reimport a multilingual Excel or delimited documents, memoQ will update it for all target languages - and this may affect other translators or reviewers working on it.
If your copy of memoQ is connected to Language Terminal, you can use the portal to import InDesign files (INDD, IDML, INX). Language Terminal uses an InDesign server to convert InDesign files into memoQ bilingual (MQXLZ) files which can be imported and translated in memoQ. In most cases, this will give you a preview for InDesign files.
No need to connect the project to Language Terminal: To import InDesign documents, it is enough to register your Language Terminal account in memoQ. You do not need to connect the project itself.
You can assign users or publish the project after the documents are imported: After you import documents using Language Terminal, you can assign users to these documents or publish the project on a server as usual.
- On the Document ribbon, click the bottom of the Import icon, and choose Import with options.
- Select the InDesign files for import. The Document import options window opens.
- In the Document import options window, click Change filter and configuration for all. The Document import settings window appears for the InDesign Markup Language documents.
- In the Document import settings window, check the Create preview using Language Terminal check box.
When you import documents with the help of Language Terminal, memoQ will not wait for the import to finish. Instead, the InDesign import/export tab appears in the Translations pane, where you can track the progress of the conversion of each document:
While the conversion is underway, you can click it anytime. In the row of the document, click Cancel.
To refresh the conversion status, click the Refresh under the list.
When the conversion is finished, the InDesign import/export tab looks like this:
memoQ will not add the document to the list in Documents. To start working on the converted document in the project, click Add to project next to the name of the document.
If you do not need the converted document after all, click Discard.
When you finish translating the document, use Export (stored path) to export it. memoQ will send the exported document to Language Terminal. Again, you can watch the progress in the InDesign import/export tab. When the conversion is finished, click Save to save the translated document.
Language Terminal stores the converted documents: When you discard a document in the project, that will not delete the document from Language Terminal. To review the documents you converted through Language Terminal in the past, click Click here to open your Language Terminal profile (at the top of the InDesign import/export tab).
memoQ can import PDF documents on its own, but it is much more efficient if you import them through the TransPDF service. Here is how you can do that:
First, you need to register with TransPDF, and save your TransPDF details in memoQ. To do that, open the My memoQ page, and click My TransPDF account.
You need to pay for TransPDF: TransPDF is not free. After you register, you can produce 25 pages of translated PDF for free, but you need to pay for the rest. TransPDF will charge you after the number of the final, translated pages that you export. So, the PDF will be imported for free, and you pay when you export the finished work.
After you save your TransPDF account details in memoQ, you can begin to translate PDF documents:
- Create a local project.
- Import PDF documents using the Import with options command. In the Document import options window, click Change filter and configuration.
- In the Document import settings window for the PDF documents, click the Import through TransPDF radio button. (There are no other options.) Click OK to start importing the documents. memoQ will give you a warning that it needs to send the document to TransPDF to be converted.
- In the Translations pane of Project home, memoQ will open another tab called TransPDF import/export. This tab lists all PDF documents you are importing through TransPDF.
In the background, memoQ will upload the PDF documents to the TransPDF service. TransPDF will convert them into XLIFF files. When this is ready, memoQ downloads the XLIFF files.
The imported files will not appear automatically in the project. Instead, memoQ will indicate on the TransPDF import/export tab when they are ready to be added to the project.
If there are other documents in your project, you can work on them while you wait for the PDF files to import. Even better, you can even close memoQ or the project - and when you open this project again, the imported PDF files will be ready for you.
- To start working on the PDF documents: Click the TransPDF import/export tab. In the row of each document, click Add to project. Now memoQ will import the XLIFF file that TransPDF made out of the original PDF.
- After you translate the document, you need to export it through TransPDF again. Use the Export (stored path) command.
- memoQ will add the document to the TransPDF export/import tab again, this time for exporting. memoQ will also upload the translated XLIFF file to TransPDF, and wait for the result. When TransPDF finishes processing the XLIFF document, you can save the PDF document.
- In the TransPDF export/import tab, next to the finished document, click Save. You can choose from three options:
- Preview PDF: You get a PDF where each page contains detailed information about the document itself. The exported page is part of the output, but TransPDF adds a lot of extra content. You cannot send this to your client.
- Comparison PDF: You get a PDF where the original pages and the translated pages appear side by side. This is still not the final translated PDF that you can send to your client. memoQ may take a few minutes to produce this type of PDF.
- Final PDF: You get the final translated PDF.
This is when you need to pay: When you download the final PDF, TransPDF will charge you for the number of pages in this PDF.
In memoQ project manager, you can assign documents to other users. To do that, click Assignments above the list of documents.
You need a project that you created on your own computer: These assignments do not work in projects that were checked out from a memoQ server (from an online project). If you need to change assignments in an online project, use the memoQ online project window for that.
In the document list, three additional columns appear: Translator, Reviewer 1, and Reviewer 2.
For each document, you can assign three tasks to people. You can choose a translator, a first reviewer, and a second reviewer for your project. Simply type a name in each field. memoQ keeps track of the names you enter, so that you can choose previously entered names from drop-down lists.
Mind the languages: If the project has two or more target languages, you need to assign the documents separately for each target language. Choose the target language from the Target language drop-down box at the top right. Or, choose All languages there, and switch the list to Structure mode. Then you'll have a list for each target language.
To assign several documents at the same time: Select the documents. In the Documents ribbon, click Assign. The Assign selected documents to users window opens. Choose a user for each task, and click OK. The names appear next to the selected documents.
To assign users automatically: Use the People pane to add users to your project. Under Languages and roles, you can specify the role and the target language of each other. When this is done, return to the Translators pane. On the Documents ribbon, click the bottom of the Assign icon, and choose Auto-assign. The Auto-assign documents to translators window opens. Check and approve the assignments, and then click OK.
To send the assignments to the users, you need to create handoff packages on the Overview pane. If you do this, memoQ keeps track of an offline workflow. Next to each name, there is an icon indicating the status of the task:
- : document not handed off yet for the task where this icon appears
- : document handed off, awaiting translation or review results
- : document received, but not all segments were confirmed.

Alternatively, you can publish your project on a memoQ server, and match all user names you entered here to user names on the memoQ server.
If you publish the project, you can no longer change the assignments here: After you publish a project, use the memoQ online project window to make changes to the assignments.
- History/reports (on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Versions icon, and choose History/reports): Opens the History/reports window. You can view the previous versions of the document, and get reports about them.
- Create snapshot (on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Versions icon, and choose Create snapshot): Saves the current contents of the selected documents as a separate version. Use this command before running something big - such as pre-translation - on it.
- Export bilingual (on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Export icon, and choose Export bilingual): Starts the Bilingual document export wizard to save the document contents in a bilingual document. It can be a two-column RTF, a bilingual Word document, or XLIFF. To exchange documents with another copy of memoQ - or with another memoQ server - use the memoQ XLIFF format.
- Export (choose path) [on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Export icon, and choose Export (choose path)]: Exports the translation of the selected document or documents. For each document, memoQ will open a Save as window. You need to choose a folder and a name for each translated document. If a document has errors, memoQ displays a warning, and does not export the document.
- Export (stored path) [on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Export icon, and choose Export (stored path)]: Exports the translation of the selected documents to a pre-set location. For each document, this location is shown in the Export path column. If a document has errors, memoQ displays a warning, and does not export the document.
To change where the Export (stored path) command saves documents:
- Change export path: For the selected documents, this command changes the pre-set path where the Export (stored path) command exports the translated document. When you click this, the Change export path window opens. To learn more: See Help about the Change export path window.
- Statistics: Counts segments, words, and characters over the entire project or for the selected documents. Checks the source documents against the translation memories and LiveDocs corpora of the project, and counts the matches. (This is called analysis.) When you click Statistics, the Statistics window opens. To learn more, see Help about the Statistics window.
- LQA reports: Prepares a report from the feedback that the reviewers added to the documents. This is called Linguistic Quality Assurance (LQA). The LQA reports window opens. To learn more: See Help about the LQA reports window.
- Pre-translate: Pre-translates the selected documents from the translation memories and LiveDocs corpora in the project. When you click the command, the Pre-translation and statistics window opens. To pre-translate documents in an online project, all required translation memories and LiveDocs corpora must be on the same memoQ server.
- X-translate: Use this after you reimport a document from a newer version of the same source text. The command will retrieve the matching translations from the previous major version of the document. When you click this, the X-Translate window opens. - Confirm and update rows: Use this after you receive (and import) a reviewed version of one or more documents. This command will write the translations in the master translation memory. (To learn more, see Help about the Translation memories pane.) When you click this command, the Confirm and update rows window opens. You can choose to confirm segments in a document or in the entire projects, and you can also choose to confirm all segments or just the ones that were confirmed by a translator or a reviewer. To learn more, see Help about the Confirm and update rows window.
- Add to LiveDocs: Adds the selected documents to a LiveDocs corpus. This means that the selected documents become reference documents, and memoQ will offer matches from their contents. The command opens the Add documents to corpus window, where you can choose the LiveDocs corpus for the document. You can choose from LiveDocs corpora that are already being used in the project. To learn more, see Help about the Add documents to corpus window. To manage LiveDocs corpora, choose LiveDocs in Project home.
When you need to translate a web site, it usually comes in the form of hundreds or thousands of small files, often with one or two segments to translate. If you need to open and close each and every one of them, the translation work will be much slower that it could be.
The remedy for this situation is gluing the small files together. In memoQ, you can select any number of documents, and create a single view of them.
On the other hand, when you need to translate a book with long chapters, there can be chapters that are far too long for a single translator to treat in the available time. If this is the case, you can split up long documents. You can create a view from a part of a document.
Or, when you are reviewing or preparing a translation project, you may need specific segments from across the project. Here are some examples:
- You are adapting an earlier translation to a newer version of the same text. The new version has been pre-translated with a translation memory of the earlier translation. Most segments have 100% or 101% matches, and you choose not to review these in the preparation phase. On the other hand, you want to review those segments that received a fuzzy match. You select all documents in your project, then create a view. In the Create view window, you can tell memoQ to include all segments with a fuzzy match from all documents in the project.
- You want to correct errors and warnings in the whole project. You can create a view to include all segments that have a warning or an error.
- You are reviewing the translation, and you want to correct specific terms and phrases. You cannot simply replace them using Find and replace. There are two ways to do this:
- Create a view by listing phrases to filter for in both the source and target cells. memoQ will include those segments that contain at least one of these phrases.
- You can use Find and replace to mark all segments where the problem phrases occur. Then create a view that includes segments that were marked by Find and replace.
To create a view:
- To glue several documents: Select the documents. On the Documents ribbon, click Create view. The Create view window opens. Type a name for the view. Click Simply glue documents together. Click OK.
- To extract part of a document: Select one document. On the Documents ribbon, click Create view. The Create view window opens. Type a name for the view. Click Split document. Type the number of the first row and the last row of the part you need to extract. Click OK.
- To get segments of interest: Select one or more documents. On the Documents ribbon, click Create view. The Create view window opens. Type a name for the view. Then do one of three things:
- Choose a condition from the Only rows that are drop-down box, then click OK.
- Click Extract repetitions. Click OK.
- Click Advanced options. The Create view (filtering and sorting) window opens. Specify detailed settings, then click OK. To learn more, see Help about the Create view (filtering and sorting) window.
When memoQ creates a view, it will appear on the Views tab of the Translations pane.
A view is a collection of segments that are directly linked to the original documents where they come from. When you change a segment in a view, the same segment will change in the original document, too.
You can edit a view in the translation editor just like any document. You can pre-translate, X-translate them, run statistics or reports on them.
You can export a view in a bilingual document, and you can update a view by importing a bilingual document.
When you remove a view, the segments in original documents are not deleted.
Remove a view if you do not need it any longer: When you finish working on the view, remove it from the project. As long as the view is in the project, there will be some things you cannot do with the original document.
To deal with views that you created previously, click the Views tab.
A view is a collection of segments that are directly linked to the original documents where they come from. When you change a segment in a view, the same segment will change in the original document, too.
You can edit a view in the translation editor just like any document. You can pre-translate, X-translate them, run statistics or reports on them.
You can export a view in a bilingual document, and you can update a view by importing a bilingual document.
When you delete a view, the segments in original documents are not deleted.
Views can have a preview if the corresponding document has a preview. When you open multiple files, then the previews are merged, displaying them one after the other in the HTML preview section.
You can Join and split segments in a view, if a view contains entire documents (joined together). You cannot join two across different documents.
You cannot join and split segments in the original document: If a document is included in a view, you cannot join or split segments in the document while the view is in the project.
Views cannot be exported into translated documents: Each segment in a view has a corresponding segment in one of the original documents, listed in the Documents tab.
- Name: The name of the view that you typed in the Create view window.
- Comments column: Shows the comment icon. If there is no comment for a view, the icon is light blue. If there is a comment for the view, the comment icon is yellow.
- #: The number of segments in the view.
- Progress: The progress of the translation.
You can select views in the same way you select documents.
To edit the contents of a view: Double-click the name of the view. It will open on a separate document tab, in the translation editor.
Cannot edit a view if one of the original documents is open: If a document is open for translation, you cannot edit a view that has segments from that document.
To manipulate views, use the commands on the Documents ribbon.
- Remove: Removes the selected view or views from the project. When you remove a view, the segments in original documents are not deleted.
- Add to LiveDocs: Adds the contents of the selected views to a LiveDocs corpus. This means that the contents become reference documents, and memoQ will offer matches from them. The command opens the Add documents to corpus window, where you can choose the LiveDocs corpus for the views. You can choose from LiveDocs corpora that are already being used in the project. To learn more, see Help about the Add documents to corpus window. To manage LiveDocs corpora, choose LiveDocs in Project home.
- Open for Translation (Translate on the Documents ribbon): Opens the contents of the selected view in the translation editor.
- Import: Imports a bilingual document, and updates one of the views from it. The bilingual document must match the view. You can export a view in a bilingual document, send it to someone else. When they send back the edited version of this bilingual document, you can update your view from it. (Do not remove the view in the meantime. You cannot update a recreated view, memoQ will consider it a different one.)
- Export bilingual (on the Documents ribbon: Click the bottom of the Export icon, and choose Export bilingual): Starts the Bilingual document export wizard to save the contents of the view in a bilingual document. It can be a two-column RTF, a bilingual Word document, or XLIFF. To exchange documents with another copy of memoQ - or with another memoQ server - use the memoQ XLIFF format.
In addition, you can run pre-translate and statistics on views.
On the Views tab, you can assign each view to users, similarly to assignments on the Documents tab.
When you send out the work in the form of handoff packages, the users will receive views.
However, if you publish the project after assigning views, the views will appear in the online project as separate documents. This happens because online projects do not support views.
When you publish a project on a memoQ server, the views get 'detached' from the original documents. Each view will start a life as a separate document.
When you finish
To return to your work: Click a document tab at the top of the memoQ window (in the same row as the Project home tab). In most cases, you will return to the translation editor.
To close the project: Click the Close icon in the Project home tab: . Or, on the Project ribbon, click Close Project.
You can close memoQ, too, if you do not need to work on another project.
You can start creating another project: If you do that, memoQ will automatically close your current project.
Project managers, you can switch windows: You can open several online projects for management. Each online project opens in a separate window. To switch between them and the Dashboard or Project home (if you have a local project open): press and hold down Alt, and press Tab a few times until you get to the window you want. Or: On the Windows taskbar, click the memoQ icon, and then click the window you want to switch to.
