Pre-translate and statistics

In the Pre-translate and statistics window, you set up and start pre-translation.

When you pre-translate a document, memoQ searches the translation memories and LiveDocs corpora in your project and inserts the best available match for each segment.

If there’s no exact match, memoQ can:

  • Assemble the segment from smaller fragments.

  • Use machine translation to suggest a translation.

  • Join or split segments to improve matches.

What's more?

  • You can control the quality of the matches used in pre-translation.

  • memoQ can also automatically confirm and lock segments that were successfully pre-translated.

  • Before pre-translation starts, memoQ can save a version of the document, allowing you to review the changes andreturn to the previous version if needed.

  • After pre-translation, memoQ runs an analysis to show how much of the text was filled in and the quality of the matches.

Pre-translation won’t start when memoQ TMS is running an automated task in an online project. When this happens, you’ll see a message asking you to wait a few minutes. This isn’t an error—once the task is done, you can continue with pre-translation.

How to get here

To pre-translate a local project (or a checked-out copy of an online project):

  1. Open a project.

  2. You may open a document for translation. However, the command works from Project home, too.

  3. On the Preparation ribbon, click Pre-translate. The Pre-translate and statistics window opens.

To pre-translate an online project:

  1. Open an online project for management.

Requires memoQ project manager: You need the project manager edition of memoQ to manage online projects.

  2. In the memoQ online project window, choose Translations.

  3. Select documents if needed.

  4. On the Statistics/Preparation ribbon, click Pre-translate. Or, right-click the selection, and choose Pre-translate. The Pre-translate and statistics window opens.

What can you do?

Check options for each kind of pre-translation:

If pre-translation is not good enough, you can start over: Use the Clear translations window to clear the pre-translated segments. Change settings - and add or remove translation memories or LiveDocs corpora in the project -, and run Pre-translate again.

When you finish

To run the pre-translation, and return to the translation editor, to Project home, or to the memoQ online project window: Click OK.

To just return to the translation editor, to Project home, or to the memoQ online project window, without changing the documents: Click Cancel.
