Ribbons - Translation memories

Create/Use New: Creates a new translation memory and adds it to the project. Opens the New translation memory window.

Register Local: Picks up a translation memory from your computer, and adds it to the list of translation memories in memoQ. Displays an Open window where you can find the folder of the translation memory. You need to register a translation memory if it is saved on your hard drive but does not appear on the list in memoQ. This can happen if you receive a translation memory by e-mail from another memoQ user.

Clone: Creates a new translation memory that has the same descriptive details and custom fields as the selected one. The new translation memory will not contain any entries.

Properties: Opens the Translation memory properties window. You can change the descriptive details, lookup settings, and the custom fields of the selected translation memory.

Delete: Deletes the selected translation memory. You cannot delete a translation memory that is still in use in the project. First, remove it from the project: clear its check box.

Use in project: Adds the selected translation memories to the current project. Same as checking their check boxes.

Remove From Project: Removes the selected translation memories from the current project. Same as clearing their check boxes.

Settings: Configures the translation memory settings to use with the selected translation memory. This way it can be different from the settings used in the project. Opens the Select TM Settings window.

Set as working (primary): The selected translation memory becomes the working translation memory. When a user confirms a segment, it is saved in this translation memory.

Set as master: The selected translation memory becomes the master translation memory. Confirm and update rows writes the translations into this translation memory. It can be the same as the working translation memory, but in projects where several translators and reviewers work, it is highly recommended to keep them separate.

Edit: Opens the translation memory for editing. First, opens the Filtering and sorting window, so that you can narrow down the list of entries before you edit the translation memory. Then the translation memory editor opens. Caution: When you open a translation memory from a memoQ TMS, it can take several minutes, depending on the size of the translation memory - and it becomes unavailable to other users while you are editing it.

Import From TMX/CSV: Imports the contents of a CSV file or a TMX file into the selected translation memory. Opens the import settings window for the format of the file. (Click the name of the format.)

Export To TMX: Exports the contents of the translation memory into a TMX file. A Save As window opens.

Repair Resource: Repairs the selected translation memory. Starts repairing the translation memory immediately. Use it when you think the translation memory is damaged (for example, you are not getting results from it).

Synchronize Offline: Works only when you select a translation memory from a memoQ TMS. Creates a local copy of the selected online translation memory, or – if the local copy already exists – synchronizes the contents of the local and the online copies. Uploads any local changes, and downloads any online changes. Local copies appear with a pink background.

This works in Project home only.

If you have access to a memoQ TMS, you can use translation memories from that server, even in a local project.

At the top of the memoQ TMS section, there is a drop-down box where you can choose the server. Normally, it shows My Computer. This means that you are looking at resources from your own computer.

To connect to a memoQ TMS: Type or paste the address of the server in the box. Or, if you have used that server before, choose it from the drop-down list. After you enter or choose the server address, click the Select button. You may need to log in to the memoQ TMS.

After you select a memoQ TMS, the list of translation memories will include the translation memories from your computer as well as from the server.

Can choose Language Terminal here: If your copy of memoQ is connected to your Language Terminal profile, you can use the translation memories you uploaded or the ones that other users shared with you.

Server Administrator: Opens the Server administrator window where you can manage a memoQ TMS. This requires the project manager edition of memoQ, and you must be an administrator or a project manager on that server.

Manage Logins: Shows the memoQ TMSs you are connected to. You can also remove a connection. Do that if you no longer have access to a server, or you need to log in to it with a different user name and password. Opens the Manage logins window.
