webtrans - Translation editor

This is the place where you can write, edit, or review the translation in webtrans. In the translation editor, you see the document in a two-column grid (divided into segments) - the source-language text in the left column, and the translation in the right column. On the right, webtrans shows the Translation results pane, where it lists matches and hints from the project's resources (translation memories, term bases, or LiveDocs corpora) for the current segment.

At the bottom, webtrans displays the View pane , where it shows how your translation will appear in the final translated format. You may need this to see your translation in context. There is no guarantee that the preview looks exactly like the final document or that it will be available at all. The webtrans translation editor is similar to the one in memoQ.

However, there are several restrictions:

• You can't use memoQ's advanced searching functionality. (Filtering by text and status is available.)
• You can't jump to the alignment editor if you discover a misaligned translation unit in a LiveDocs corpus.
• Predictive typing, Muses, and the intelligent placement of tags, numbers, and terms are not available. Bilingual concordance does not work either.
• memoQ web search is not available.
• You cannot insert symbols into the target text. Use the operating system's Character map app to find and copy symbols, then paste them into webtrans.

How to get here

1. Sign in to memoQweb.
2. If memoQweb does not show the webtrans page, click the webtrans  icon on the left sidebar.
3. Click the project that the document belongs to, then click the document's name. It opens on a separate browser tab, in the webtrans translation editor.

What can you do?

• Start translating:

  Write, edit, and confirm the translation

  The translation editor shows each segment in a separate row. In running text, a segment usually corresponds to a sentence.

  In structured content (tables, XML files, and databases), a segment usually corresponds to a cell or a data record. It may contain just a phrase, but it may also contain several sentences.

  In each row, the left segment contains the source, and the right target language where you can add your translation.

  

  To confirm your translation, press Ctrl+Enter.

  When you confirm your translation:

  • webtrans saves the translation in the document and in the working translation memory of the project.
  • The status of the segment becomes Confirmed.
  • webtrans moves to the next segment and pre-translate it. If there are matches that cover the entire segment, the target cell will already have it. (The first segment of a document or a view is never pre-translated automatically.)
  Check spelling and grammar

  To check the spelling in your translation, click the Spelling icon at the top.

  webtrans will underline the suspect words and phrases:

  

  Right-click the red underline, and choose an option from the menu. If you want to keep the word as it is, simply ignore the red underline. If you want webtrans to accept all occurrences of the word in the future, click Add.

  Adding words needs an ignore list: The project manager needs to add an ignore list to the project in the memoQ desktop app.

  No grammar checking: To check grammar, you need the memoQ desktop app.

  No red underlines? Either all words are spelled correctly, or the spell checker is not configured for your target language. If you believe you should see red underlines, contact your project manager.

  Check your progress on the status bar

  If you need to know where you are in the translation, take a glance at the status bar, at the very bottom of the window.

  

  It shows the following details:

  • : Server connection status. Shows if you are currently connected to the server.
  • Doc: A percentage showing how much of the document is done.
  • TR: Number of segments confirmed by a translator.
  • R1: Number of segments confirmed by a Reviewer 1.
  • R2: Number of segments confirmed by a Reviewer 2.
  • Ed: Number of segments edited but not confirmed.
  • Rej: Number of segments rejected by a reviewer.
  • Empty: Number of segments that haven't been touched yet.
  • Pre: Number of segments that were pre-translated but not edited yet.
  • Frag + MT: Number of segments where pre-translation inserted a fragment-assembled match or a machine translation plugin's translation.
  • QA errors: The number of errors that came up during QA.
  • Pos: Current position in the segment.
  • Length: Length of the source segment and of the target segment in characters. Tag length appears after a plus sign.
  Quickly insert suggestions from resources

  When you start working on a segment, webtrans will collect suggestions for the source text there.

  The suggestions will appear in the Translation results pane. Some suggestions cover the entire segment, others are just for parts of it.

  To insert a suggestion:

  • Press Ctrl+Space to insert the first (topmost) suggestion.
  • To insert another suggestion, press Ctrl and the number of the suggestion.
  • Or, move to the suggestion by pressing Ctrl+Down and Ctrl+Up, then press Ctrl+Enter.

  • Or, double-click the suggestion.

    If you arrive to the current segment by confirming the previous one: The highest-ranking suggestion will already be there in the target cell (if there are matches for the entire segment). You do not have to insert a suggestion - unless you need a different one.

  • If a suggestion is for the entire segment, the suggested translation will replace any text that you typed previously.
  • If a suggestion is for part of the segment, the suggested translation will be inserted where the caret is.

    After inserting the suggestions, edit the text as necessary. When the translation is ready, confirm the segment: Press Ctrl+Enter.

  Concordance

  Using Concordance, you can find entries in the translation memories or LiveDocs corpora that contain the text you selected. Besides the sequence of words, you can also search for parts of words, or segments that contain all the words you specified.

  To use Concordance, select text in a target cell or in a source cell, then click the Concordance icon, or press Ctrl+K. The Concordance window opens.

  Note: If you press Ctrl+K with text selected in the target segment, webtrans will look up the selected text on the target side of the translation memories, and it will look for hits in the project's target language from LiveDocs corpora in the project. (LiveDocs corpora are multilingual, and they do not use a designated source language – until they are used in a project.)

• Work on your document:

  Move around in the document (shortcuts)

  Move around:

  • To move up and down in the document, use the Up and Down arrow keys.

  • To skip or jump certain rows, click the Jump to  at the top left. The Jump to row window opens.

    Check the check boxes for those row types that you want to skip, then click Up or Down.

  • To jump to the beginning of the segment: Press Ctrl+Home.

  • To jump to the beginning of the line: Press Home.

  • To jump to the end of the segment: Press Ctrl+End.

  • To jump to the end of the line: Press End.

  • To move one word at a time: Press Ctrl+Left or Ctrl+Right.

  • Go to the first visible segment: To go to the first visible segment press PageUp.

  • Go to the last visible segment: To go to the last visible segment press PageDown.

  Work with text:

  • To select characters: Press and hold down Shift, and keep pressing Right or Left.

  • To select one or more words: Press and hold down Shift and Ctrl, and keep pressing Right or Left.

  • To select one or more lines: Press and hold down Shift, and keep pressing Up or Down.

    If you reach the first or the last line of the segment, and then press Shift+Up or Shift+Down, webtrans selects the entire segment and the previous or the next segment with it. This is how you select entire segments.

  • To select the entire target cell: Press Ctrl+A.

  • To copy and paste text: Press Ctrl+C and Press Ctrl+V.

  • To undo changes: Press Ctrl+Z. You can undo any number of changes you made without leaving the current cell. If you move away from a cell, you cannot undo changes in it anymore.

  Work with segments:

  • To select entire segments: Click the first segment. Press and hold down Shift, and press Down. If the first segment has two or more lines in the target cell, webtrans starts selecting lines. When you reach the end of the segment, webtrans starts selecting entire segments.

    Or: Click the number of the first segment. Scroll down to the last segment you want to select. (Do not click any segments in the process.) Press and hold down Shift, and click the number of the last segment.

  • Select to first segment: Press Ctrl+Shift+Home to select the segment and every segment before it in the document.

  • Select to last segment: Press Ctrl+Shift+End to select the segment and every segment after it in the document.

  • To copy the entire source to target segment: Select the segments, and on the toolbar, click the Copy source to target  icon, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.

    If you selected two or more segments, the Overwrite target segments?window appears:
    

    To copy the source texts: Click the Overwrite button. The source text will replace the text that is already in the target segment. To return to the translation editor without copying the source text: Click the Cancel button.

  • Select all segments: Press Ctrl+Shift+A to select all segments.

    Using the numeric keypad? You need to switch off NumLock for shortcuts with the Page Up, Page Down, Home, End, Up, or Down key.

  • To clear the target text from one or more segments: Select the segments and click the Clear translations  icon, or press Alt+C. memoQ displays the Clear translations? window: Click Clear to confirm.

  • To find specific text in the document: Press Ctrl+Shift+F, or click the Find icon on the toolbar. The Find and replace window opens. Type the text you need to look for, and press Enter.

    To replace text: Check the Replace with check box. The Replace with box and the Replace button appear. Type the replacement in the Replace with box.

  Format your document

  Basic formatting:

  webtrans displays some of the formatting from the source document (if the document type allows it), but not all.

  Cannot change or apply formatting? This type of formatting is not available with all document formats. If you are translating a document where the document format does not allow inline formatting, or it does not use formatting that memoQ can recognize, you will not be able to apply bold, italic, or underlined formatting - simply because memoQ does not know how that looks in the document, or if they are possible at all in that document format.

  You can freely apply all the below formatting in the target cells, too, even when there is none in the source cell.

  To apply formatting to selected text, use the formatting icons on the toolbar:

  

  • Bold: Ctrl+B
  • Italic: Ctrl+I
  • Underlined: Ctrl+U
  • the combinations of the above, as well as
  • superscript and subscript
  • Toggle case: Shift+F3. Use it to change the selected text from the original to Sentence case to Title Case to all lowercase to ALL CAPITALS and back to the original.
  • RLM: Use it when you are translating into a language that uses a right-to-left script (for example, Arabic or Hebrew).
  • LRM: Use it when you need to insert something in a left-to-right mark, for example in English.

  All other formatting appears as inline tags: Other formatting commands will appear in the form of inline tags.

  Change how you see special characters:

  • To show or hide spaces and line breaks that are normally not visible: On the toolbar, click the Show or hide non-printing characters  button.

  • To automatically replace single (') and double (") straight quotation marks with curly ones (‘’ and “”) as you type: On the toolbar, click the smart quotes button.

  Copy, insert, and edit inline tags

  If there is a change of structure or formatting inside a segment, webtrans will show an inline tag:

  

  (If it comes from a Word document, it may indicate a change in font face, size, or color.)

  To show or hide the tags' full content (name, attributes, and their values): On the toolbar, click the show/hide tag content button:

  

  When you translate the document, you need to copy this formatting to the target cell:

  

  In the example, the translation of 'views' is 'Ansichten'. To copy the tags to this word, place the caret right before the word 'Ansichten', then press F9. Then, place the caret right after the word 'Ansichten', and press F9 again. (Here, you cannot use the advanced options available in the memoQ desktop app.)

  There can be several tags next to one another. When you press F9, the entire tag sequence is copied.

  • If there are several tags or tag sequences in a cell: F9 copies the first one from the source cell that is not yet in the target cell.
  • If there are figures, images, or embedded objects in the document, memoQ displays inline tags for them, too.
    

  Legacy formatting tags: Some tags appear in the form of purple rectangles: . In some document types, these tags appear when there is a paragraph break inside a segment. To copy these tags, press F9.

  If some tags are not copied: Some tags are required. If a required tag is missing from the target cell, there will be an error. Legacy formatting tags are always required.

  Here is what an error looks like:

  

  If an optional tag is missing: memoQ gives you a warning. On the right, it appears as an orange lightning bolt. To deal with the warning, double-click the lightning bolt. The Warnings for row window opens.

  

  To edit an inline tag: On the toolbar, click the edit inline tag icon. next the Edit inline tag window opens.

  Edit the source text

  To edit the source segment in the current row: Click the Edit source  button, or press F2.

  When you edit a source segment, you can:

  • edit bold/italic/underline formatting
  • edit superscript/subscript formatting
  • use the Clipboard to copy or paste content
  • undo/redo actions

  When you edit a source segment, you cannot:

  • insert all formatting tags
  • copy the next tag sequence

  To revert the changes you made to a source segment: Click that source segment. On the toolbar, click the Revert source to original button.

  When you edit a source segment, the segment status changes to Edited.

  Never delete tags: Do not delete tags from the source cell. If you do, you may not be able to solve tagging problems later.

  When you confirm a segment where the source text was edited, webtrans saves two units in the translation memory: One with the source text before editing, and another with the edited source segment.

• Work with segments:

  Change the segments: join or split segments

  When webtrans divides the source text into segments, it is called segmentation. Because it does not understand the text, all it can do is guess where a sentence ends and another starts. The basic rule is that a sentence ends where there is a period, followed by a space and a capital letter. There are exceptions, but this is how simple we must make it for the computer.

  Sometimes it goes wrong:

  

  In memoQ, you can use two commands to fix this: join and split.

  To join two or more segments: Select the segments, and click the Join  icon on the toolbar. The segments will become one, and if there are translations in the right-hand cells, they will be joined, too:

  

  To split one segment in two: Place the caret at the place where you want to split the text, and then click the Split icon on the toolbar. webtrans will replace the segment with two segments. If there was a translation in the target cell, it remains with the first segment.

  Cannot fix abbreviations: You cannot add abbreviations in webtrans, nor can you re-segment the document along them. To do that, you need the memoQ desktop app.

  I cannot join or split segments, why?

  If webtrans does not let you join or split segments, that may be perfectly normal.

  • In the online project, the project manager may have disabled joining or splitting segments. This means you are not allowed to join or split segments, even if it were technically possible.
  • Sometimes you cannot join certain segments. This happens when the document was imported from a structured document such as Excel or XML. You cannot join two segments if they come from different cells in an Excel sheet, or they come from different XML elements. When you cannot join two segments, always look at the preview - that will show the two segments, and it will help you find out why they cannot be joined.
  Filter and sort the segments

  Translation documents may contain a lot of segments. To find the segments you need, use the options on the filtering and sorting bar. To show it: Click the funnel icon at the top right.

  

  To filter for segments that contain a certain word or two in the source or the target text: Type the words you are looking for in the Source or the Target text box. To look for words with the exact same lowercase and uppercase letters: Click the Case-sensitive  icon. webtrans will only show segments that contain these words.

  If you change the phrase in one of the filter text boxes, memoQ forgets the previous filtering. Example: If, in the Source field, you filter for 'device', then for 'input', memoQ shows all segments where the source text contains 'input' - even if the source text does not contain 'device'.

  Source and Target filters are always on top of each other: If you filter for 'device' in the Source field, then for 'Gerät' in the Target field, memoQ shows only segments where the source text contains 'device' and the target contains 'Gerät'. If you now change the Source filter to 'input', memoQ shows different segments if Clear previous filter results is on or off, but the target texts will still contain 'Gerät'.

  To filter the rows by status: Click the funnel icon on the filtering and sorting bar. The Advanced filters window opens:

  

  To use a set of common filtering options: Choose one from the Filter sets dropdown.

  To use a custom set: Change the options in the Advanced filtering window as needed. The dropdown changes to Custom.

  Custom sets are not saved: If you choose custom settings, then change to a pre-defined filter set, then choose Custom from the Filter sets dropdown, all options will be cleared.

  • Match rate (%): Displays every segment that was originally pre-translated or filled in with a certain match rate. (Since then, they may have been edited or confirmed, but the match rate is still there.) Check the check box before the two number boxes. Fill in the number boxes with two numbers. For example, if you enter 80 and 90, memoQ will give you segments that were originally pre-translated or filled in with a match rate between 80 and 90 percent.
  • Row status:
    • Not started: Check this to see every empty – not started – segments. This is the default setting.
    • Edited: Check this to see every segment that was edited but was not confirmed.
    • Assembled from fragments: Check this to see every segment put together from terms or other partial matches (fragments).
    • Pre-translated, below 100%: Check this to see every segment that is below a100% match and comes from pre-translation.
    • Pre-translated, unambiguous match: Check this to see every segment that has an unambiguous matchrate and comes from pre-translation.
    • Pre-translated, multiple 100% or 101%: Check this to see every segment that is a 100% or 101% match and comes from pre-translation.
    • Machine translated: Check this to see every machine translated segment
    • X-translated: Check this to see every X-translated segment
    • Translator confirmed: Check this to see every confirmed segment.
    • Reviewer 1 confirmed: Check this to see every segment that was confirmed by the Reviewer 1 role.
    • Reviewer 2 confirmed: Check this to see every proofread segment.
    • Rejected: Check this to see all rejected segments.
  • Locked or not:
    • Both locked and unlocked rows: Includes all rows in the view, regardless of their locked or unlocked status.
    • Only locked rows: Includes only the locked – not translatable – segments.
    • Only unlocked rows: Includes only the not locked – translatable – segments.
  • Other properties:
    • Auto-joined/split: Check this to see auto-joined/split segments.
    • Error: Check this to see errors that prevent the document from being exported.
    • Unsuppressed warning: Check this to see warnings that were not set to 'ignore'. Warnings do not prevent the document from being exported.
    • Track Changes match: Check this to see every segment that has a track changes match.
    • Commented: Check this to see every segment that contains a comment.
    • Auto-propagated: Check this to see every segment that came from auto-propagation auto-propagation.
    • Change-tracked segment: Check this to see every segment where track changes were used and the original target segment was modified.

  To apply the filter: Click OK. To discard the filter: Click Cancel.

  To remove applied filters: Click the Clear filter icon.

  To sort the segments in the grid: Choose an sorting order from the Sort dropdown.

  

  • No sorting: Segments appear in the order they occur in the documents.
  • Alphabetical by source: Sorts segments in alphabetical order of the source-language cells.
  • Alphabetical by target: Sort segments in alphabetical or order of target-language cells.
  • Source text length: Sorts segments by length of the source text.
  • Target text length: Sorts segments by length of the translation.
  • Match rate: Sorts segments by the match rate of the source language entries. Makes sense in segments that were originally pre-translated. All other segments have a match rate of N/A.
  • Frequency: Sorts segments by the number of times the source text is repeated throughout the view.
  • Last changed: Sorts segments by the date they were last changed.
  • Row status : Sorts segments by row status. The normal ascending order is this: Not started, Pre-translated, Edited, Translator confirmed, Reviewer 1 confirmed, Reviewer 2 confirmed.
  • Sort order dropdown: Choose Ascending or Descending.
  • Ascending: Sorts segments in ascending order: From A to Z; from shortest to longest; from lower to higher.
  • Descending: Sorts segments in descending order: From Z to A; from longest to shortest; from higher to lower.
  Mark text and add comments to segments or parts of segments

  On the right end of each row, in the status box, there is a comment icon.

  To add a comment to the segment, click this icon. The Comments for row window opens. Choose how serious the comment is, and which part of the segment it belongs to. Then write the comment itself. Click OK.

  If there is already a comment, it will appear when you point at the comment icon.

  To mark text in a segment (similarly to a highlighter):

  1. Select the text in the source or in the target cell.
  2. On the toolbar, choose the severity from the drop-down box that normally shows 'information':
  3. Click the Mark icon.

  No commenting if you are excluded: If you are member of a group that was excluded from commenting, you will not be able to see or add comments. If you cannot see the commenting options in webtrans, ask your project manager or system administrator about this.

  Check the status of segments

  On the right of every row, there is a status box. webtrans uses color coding to indicate the status of each segment.

  

  The status is one of the following:

  • Not started: Gray. Segments that have not been touched yet.
  • Edited: Peach/orange. Segments that were changed but not confirmed since.
  • Pre-translated: Blue. Segments that were automatically filled in by webtrans (or memoQ TMS) from translation memories or LiveDocs corpora.
  • Machine-translated or Assembled from fragments: Purple. Segments that were automatically filled in by memoQ from machine translation or fragment assembly.
  • Translator confirmed: Green, with a single tick mark. Segment confirmed by a user in the translator role.
  • Reviewer 1 confirmed: Green, with a single tick mark and a plus sign. Segment confirmed by a user in the Reviewer 1 role.
  • Reviewer 2 confirmed: Green, with a double tick mark. Segment confirmed by a user in the Reviewer 2 role.
  • Locked: A padlock icon in the status box. The segment has a gray background. The text cannot be edited.
  • Rejected: Pinkish red. Segment that was rejected by a reviewer.

    What are the percent values? If a match from a translation memory or a LiveDocs corpus was inserted in the segment earlier, the match rate of that match is there in the status cell. To learn more about match rates, see Help about Match rates from translation memories and LiveDocs corpora.

  Choose if you want to auto-propagate to a segment or not

  Auto-propagation ensures that the translation of repeated segments is consistent. When it is turned on, memoQ always checks if the segment you translate and confirm is a repetition. If it is, memoQ inserts the same translation in every repeated segment in the rest of the current document or view. After you turn on auto-propagation, it's automatic.

  Auto-propagation can be dangerous: Before you turn on auto-propagation, make sure that repeated segments don't need different translations in different contexts.

  To turn off auto-propagation for a specific segment:

  • Double-click the "auto-propagate" icon. It will change to , and memoQ will not auto-propagate translations to that segment.

    Or:

  • Right-click the row, and in the menu, click Disable auto-propagation for this row.

    Or:

  • Click the row, and press Ctrl+Shift+H.

  To turn auto-propagation on again: 

  • Double-click the "do not auto-propagate" icon. It will change to , and memoQ will auto-propagate translations to that segment again.

    Or:

  • Right-click the row, and in the menu, click Enable auto-propagation for this row.

    Or:

  • Click the row, and press Ctrl+Shift+H.

  When you export and re-import a document to the project, memoQ keeps the information about disabled repetitions, and shows the icon next to them.

  Check rows before filtering: When filtering for repetitions, and auto-propagation is turned on, memoQ will not list the segments where auto-propagation was disabled.

  • Review your translations:

    Review translations: Reject segments and use LQA

    When you are reviewing a translation, you can add feedback in various ways. One of them is turning on Track changes (see the previous section). Or, you can add notes to a segment.

    However, the best option is to reject problematic segments - if the project is using a linguistic quality assurance model (LQA model).

    To reject a segment, press Shift+Enter.

    If the project has an LQA model, the Enter LQA error window opens. When you fill in the fields in this window, you give detailed feedback about the problems with the segment.

    After you finish reviewing the document, you can send it back to the translator. To do that, use the Deliver icon at the top.

    At any rate, whoever opens the document after you, they will see the LQA feedback. Project managers can even get an LQA report from this information.

    When a segment is already rejected: You can view the feedback - if any - in the View pane. If you have the sufficient privilege, you can even modify the LQA feedback. As a translator, you can dispute an LQA feedback. To learn how, read Help about the View pane.

    Review translations: Track changes

    Working as a reviewer, you can track your changes in webtrans, and you do not have to create a new document version for that.

    To turn on tracking changes: On the toolbar, click the Track changes  icon.

    When you edit the document, webtrans will show insertions, changes, and deletions, more or less in the same way as Microsoft Word.

    When you turn on tracking changes, webtrans will show the markup. However, you can view the final version only. From the drop-down box next to the Track changesicon, choose Final.

    To turn off tracking changes: On the toolbar, click the Track changes icon again.

    webtrans will save the changes in the documents. Each change is marked with the name of the user who made the change, and the time when the change was made. To see the details of a change, point the mouse at it:
    

    Using the keyboard: Press any row below (Shift + cursor down) or a row above (Shift + cursor up) on your keyboard. It selects both, the current row and the neighboring row.

    Place the mouse in the source segment at the position where you want to split the segment into 2 segments. Click the Split segment into two icon () in the toolbar. The segment is now split  into 2 segments.

    Note: You cannot split segments which have the status Locked or Not in my slice, if you work in a sliced document.

    When you track your own changes, memoQ will use your user name to mark the changes.

    webtrans will automatically save it, and use the new name as soon as you return to your document.

    You may not be able to track changes: The project manager can set up the project so that tracking changes is not allowed. If the Track changes icon does not work - and you think it should -, ask your project manager if this is intentional.

    Run QA

    Normally, webtrans only displays QA issues for a segment after you confirmed it. This means that if you make changes, but do not confirm the segment, you will not see if you made a mistake. But you can run a QA check on the entire document, and filter the segments with QA issues. This way, you do not have to confirm incorrect segments, and less errors get into the translation memory.

    To start, click the Run QA button on the toolbar.

    webtrans always doesthe QA check on the entire document: excluding it only leaves out locked segments.

    Once QA is complete, memoQweb marks warnings and errors in the status cells for each row. The View pane's QA warnings  tab has more info on each warning and error.

    The QA results window opens, telling you the number or warnings and errors. 

    To view these issues, use the Active QA issues filter set.

    Deal with errors and warnings

    webtrans uses a built-in quality checker to give warnings for various problems: missing inline tags, extra spaces, missing numbers, inconsistent translations etc. In fact, you can get errors and warning. It shows on the right of the segment, in the status box:

    

    • Warning: If you see the orange lightning symbol, there are warnings from the quality assurance module. To learn more about the problems, double-click the lightning symbol. The Warnings for row window opens. You can ignore a warning there. In the segment, an ignored warning looks like this: .
    • Error: If you see the symbol, there is an error in the segment. This means that required inline tags - or legacy formatting tags - are missing from the target cell. You cannot export the document until you make sure these are copied. To learn more about an error, double-click the error symbol. You cannot ignore an error.

      You may not be able to deliver a document that has errors: If the project manager set up the project that way, you cannot deliver a document before you deal with all errors. If this is the case, webtrans will say so in a message when you try to deliver the document.

      You cannot change settings: The QA checker will use the settings from the online project. Only the project manager can change which problems the QA checker is looking for.

• Use webtrans with screen readers (Accessibility mode)

  Accessibility mode allows users of assistive technology (such as screen readers) to use webtrans easily and more effectively.

  This mode was tested with the JAWS screen reader.

  Activate Accessibility mode

  1. To open the button list: Press Insert+Ctrl+B.

  2. When in the button list, type “acc” and then press Enter. The Accessibility mode button is highlighted.

  3. To activate Accessibility mode: press Space or Enter.

  4. webtrans automatically redirects you on the first segment. You can start working from here.

     If you need to refresh the page at any point, webtrans will remember whether the Accessibility mode was turned on or off.

     

  If you are an experienced Jaws user, you may want to switch off default settings for the Forms mode. In Jaws, open Utilities → Settings Center → from the drop-down list, choose Default or press Ctrl+Shift+D → select Forms mode → select Manual. You can also switch Forms mode off from webtrans: Press Esc or Capslock+;.

  Shortcuts

  Use these keyboard shortcuts to move around in the translation editor:

  • Jump to the Translation results section: T. You can check translation results one by one. Your screen reader will read the information in this order: source language, row number, type of translation result (for example, TM, TB, LiveDocs), and the percentage match (optional), target language.

  • Insert the selected translation result: Ctrl+number.

  • Jump back to the grid: Shift+T.

  • Move around in the grid: Alt+Ctrl+arrow keys. For example, if you are in the source segment and want to move to the target segment, press Alt+Ctrl+right arrow.

  • Move around in the status box: Arrow keys. For example, to check the match rate, comments, or warnings.

  • Confirm the segment: Ctrl+Enter.

  • Display all the headings: Shift+H.

  • Create a bookmark and mark the segment to jump back to it quickly: Ctrl+Windows+K.

  • Jump back to the bookmark/the last segment you edited: K.

  • Move to the end of the page or straight to the pop-up window: Ctrl+End. For example, if you want to delete a comment, memoQ displays the confirmation window asking you to confirm that you want to delete this comment. Use this shortcut to move straight to this window and navigate with arrows to the Delete button. Press Enter to confirm.

  • If there are any shortcut conflicts between JAWS and webtrans: Press Insert+3.

    For example:

    • Move page down: Insert+3+Page Down.

    • Select all rows: Insert+3 and then Ctrl+Shift+A.

• Use Antidote Corrector : It is a popular language proofing tool for English and French. You can use the Corrector to check and correct your translation even while you are working in memoQ's translation editor on the desktop or on the web.

When you finish

After you finish translating or reviewing the document, deliver it: Click the Deliver  icon at the top right.

To leave the document: Close the browser tab.
